CCC webinar – Open Call-In For Candidates

Tuesday, March 18, 9:00 PM Eastern

This teleconference/ webinar is designed especially for Greens who are running for office or considering a run in the near future. This call will cover two distinct topics in succession — developing a campaign platform and a campaign website. This will be an interactive dialogue with participants on experiences with platforms — how they are developed, used, and how they can help or hinder the campaign. The Platform is a tool and provides guidance in responding to questionnaires, live forum/debate questions, or potential voted on the spot. The call will cover:

  • What is the platform: do they matter-how much and how little?
  • building a platform including defining terms for constituents, stakeholder input, building consensus from the team
  • framing the platform: sound bites, key phrases, key words
  • sticking to your platform and message no matter what

The website portion will cover:

  • setting up your first campaign website even if you don’t have technical skills
  • brief review of useful tools such as Word Press and NationBuilder for website creation
  • purchasing a domain name, hosting your website

Jesse Townley will cover the platform portion and Hillary Kane will discuss websites.

Jesse Townley is an elected member of the Berkeley Rent Board, which administers the city’s rent control ordinance. He was first elected to the Rent Board in 2008, and re-elected to a 4-year post as the highest vote-getter in 2010. He ran for Berkeley City Council unsuccessfully in 2004 in a 3-way race, and was the Volunteer Coordinator for Aimee Allison’s 2005 campaign for Oakland City Council. He’s also volunteered on umpteen campaigns doing everything from knocking on doors, making phone calls, and setting up fundraisers. Jesse is also a member of the GPUS Steering Committee and the Coordinated Campaign Committee.

Hillary Kane is the Secretary of the Green Party of Pennsylvania, treasurer of the Green Party of Philadelphia, and Treasurer of Pennsylvania’s FEC Committee. She is also serving as Treasurer of Paul Glover’s campaign for Governor of Pennsylvania. Since late last year, Hillary has overseen GPPA’s transition to the NationBuilder platform for both its website and database management. She is also overseeing the Glover for Governor website, developed as part of GPPA’s NationBuilder account. Hillary also has experience with Word Press, the platform on which the Green Party of Philadelphia website is based. Kane is currently a Pennsylvania delegate to the Green Party’s National Committee, the co-chair of the GPUS Annual National Meeting Committee, and a member of the GPUS Coordinated Campaign Committee.
