LOUISIANA GREEN PARTY, APPLICATION FOR MEMBERSHIP

AUTHORIZATION FOR AFFILIATION.

The GPL was formed at their convention in New Orleans on Labor Day weekend, August 31 and September 1, 2002. They accomplished a great deal over those two days. They discussed and approved bylaws and a platform, and elected two observers to the USGP Coordinating Committee. And decided by consensus to seek membership in the USGP.

They believe our party meets the USGP criteria for accreditation. They adhere to the Ten Key Values. They have the beginnings of a statewide organization; our convention, for example, drew Greens from Shreveport, Alexandria, Lafayette, Baton Rouge, the North Shore, and New Orleans. They have every intention of achieving ballot status, of running state and local candidates, and of supporting USGP national candidates. And they are committed to attaining gender balance; their elected observers to the USGP Coordinating Committee, for example, are both women.

DOCUMENTATION. To demonstrate work that has been taking place, they submitted a binder with their bylaws, newsclippings, and additional anecdotal information about their party’s formation.

OBSERVATIONS. The Accreditation Committee asked for clarification on a few items related to party-building activities, and their commitment to reaching out to additional environmental and social justice organizations. Louisiana promptly supplied additional information that was requested. This information can be viewed at the Accreditation Committee’s archive:

Additionally, the Accreditation Committee asked the Diversity Committee to weigh in on the Accreditation of Louisiana. The co-chair’s response can be found in the archive:

Therefore, we are delighted to make the following recommendation:
