WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Mayor Jason West of New Paltz, New York will be the featured guest at a Green Party 'Meet, Mix, & Empower' fundraiser and celebration of same-sex marriage rights, in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, May 15.  The event will be sponsored by the Green Party of the United States and will take place at Cafi Citron, near Dupont Circle from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m.

Also speaking will be Anthony Brown, family law attorney and a member of the board of directors of The Wedding Party, and Brandon Lacy Campos, chair of the Lavender Green Caucus.  D.C. Statehood Green Party candidates Arturo Griffiths, running for D.C. City Council At-Large, and Michele Tingling-Clemmons, running for Council Ward 7, will also be present.

Greens will celebrate progress towards marriage equality and the party's support for same-sex marriage rights.  Mayor West, a Green, made national news recently when he solemnized marriages for 25 same-sex couples in New Paltz.

The Wedding Party is a volunteer nonprofit organization that supports same-sex partnerships and educates the public on the need for equal marriage rights.  The Lavender Green Caucus represents lesbian, gay, bi, transgender, intersexed, and queer members of the Green Party.

Reporters and guests can meet Mayor West, mingle with other marriage equality supporters and enjoy the international music mix at Cafi Citron, a Dupont Circle hotspot.

The price for tickets to the event is $25 (5$ discount for those who reserve ahead of time at <http://www.gp.org/fundraiser.html>.  (Discounted tickets may be purchased online at the web site.) Members of the press may attend gratis.  Money raised at the event will support the Green Party's efforts to build a lasting independent non-corporate party based on principles of democracy, ecology, and social justice.

The platform of the Green Party includes full equal rights, protections, and freedoms for lesbian, gay, bi, transgender, intersexed, and queer people.
