COBB CALLS FOR NEW ENERGY POLICY TO STEM GLOBAL WARMING
Says National Security Requires Energy Independence

Green presidential candidate David Cobb today called for a new, comprehensive energy policy for the U.S. to combat catastrophic global warming and to eliminate U.S. dependence on foreign oil.

"The national security of our country would be best served by trimming the bloated Pentagon budget and investing in an emergency program of conservation and in the immediate development of domestically available, renewable energy sources such as wind, solar and biodiesel," said Cobb.

"We need the equivalent of a national Marshall Plan to handle the looming energy and climate crisis.  We need more public transportation and higher fuel efficiency standards for automobiles, trucks and SUVs.  But most of all, we need political leadership which isn't beholden to corporations like Enron and Exxon," said Cobb.

"Just as both establishment parties are corrupted by contributions from energy and automobile companies, our foreign policy is corrupted by our national addiction to fossil fuels.  Instead of cozying up to dictators and oppressive regimes and dispatching young soldiers to fight for oil, we should be creating energy independence at home," said Cobb.

Cobb called for restoring U.S. membership in the Kyoto accords and for making that agreement stronger.  Noting that the Democrats recently dropped endorsing the Kyoto accords from their platform and that John Kerry's website is silent on this issue, Cobb said that "the Green Party is the only party in this election willing to take a stand on the most important environmental issue of the twenty first century."

Cobb will be making campaign appearances in New York on July 22, 23 and 24, before heading to Boston for forums, rallies and protests timed to coincide with the Democratic National Convention.
