Democratic Nominee Avoids Major Issues, Takes Progressives for Granted

In his acceptance speech for the Democratic nomination, John Kerry took a predictable path to the right and studiously avoided mention of a range of issues important to progressives in America.

"Kerry's speech was carefully crafted and well-delivered but totally devoid of substance," said Blair Bobier, Media Coordinator for the Cobb-LaMarche Green Party presidential campaign.

"The words most progressives wanted John Kerry to speak, including many members of the Democrat Party were these:  'Let's bring our troops home now.'  Kerry's silence was deafening," said Green Party presidential candidate David Cobb

"Senator Kerry also made no mention of supporting equal rights for gay and lesbian couples, he didn't talk about repealing the so-called 'Patriot' Act, he didn't talk about raising the minimum wage to a living wage, he didn't talk about ending the racist war on drugs, he didn't mention global warming or the Kyoto accords, he ignored affirmative action, he didn't talk about publicly financing campaigns and getting corporate money out of elections and he didn't say how he was going to pay for 40,000 new troops and the biggest defense budget in the history of the planet," said Cobb.

"Senator Kerry is taking the progressive vote for granted," said Pat LaMarche, Green Party vice presidential nominee.

"We want people to know that if they support a progressive agenda, they have a home in the Green Party."

The Cobb-LaMarche campaign expects to be on the ballot in forty states for the November election.
