'A GREEN WORLD IS POSSIBLE' FESTIVAL, SATURDAY, AUGUST 28 IN NEW YORK WILL COINCIDE WITH THE BEGINNING OF THE REPUBLICAN CONVENTION

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Green Party's 'A Green World Is Possible: A Festival of Non-Violence, Ecology, Democracy, Social and Economic Justice', timed to coincide with the beginning of the Republican National Convention and anti-Bush protests in New York City, is on for Saturday, August 28, noon to 6 p.m. in Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village.

A list of speakers at the event, including Green presidential candidate David Cobb, follows below.  All speakers will be available for interview with reporters after they speak.

The Green Party Office Committee in Manhattan, working with the Green Party of New York State and the Green Party of the United States, is organizing the festival, which Greens are calling "a day of peaceful, unifying, and creative response" to the Republican Convention.  More than 30 organizations will participate.

Among the attractions planned are a Presidential mudsling, a 20-foot tall Pinocchio George Bush, 'Freedom' Yoga, kids activities, and 'soapbox' free speech areas.  A schedule of musical acts (including a musical tribute to the activist history of Washington Square Park), speakers, and other features is posted at <http://www.gp.org/event_08_28_04.html>.

Greens will also participate in the Sunday, August 29 protest at the Republican National Convention in alliance with United For Peace and Justice (UFPJ).  Greens and friends of Greens plan to assemble 10 a.m. at 19th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues, step off at noon, and join the UFPJ march, which will bring a massive crowd past Madison Square Garden, the site of the Republican Convention.  (UFPJ will gather 10 a.m. at Seventh Avenue and 14th Street and step off at noon.)
