WASHINGTON, D.C. The Green Party of the United States will hold
its 2002 Midterm Convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from Thursday,
July 18 to Sunday, July 21. The convention will take place at the
Holiday Inn - Independence Mall, 400 Arch Street in downtown
Philadelphia. The phone number at the hotel, for reservations only, is

The following press conferences have been scheduled in connection with
the convention:
*** Pre-convention: Thursday, June 27, at 11 a.m. at the Liberty Bell in
Philadelphia, on Market Street between 5th and 6th Streets (part of
Independence National Historical Park). The press conference is being
held in tandem with the campaign to elect Michael Morrill, Green
candidate for Governor of Pennsylvania (contact number: 570-372-0503).
*** During the convention: Friday, July 19, at 11 a.m. at the Holiday
Inn, featuring prominent Green candidates and officeholders (names to be
announced). Other press conferences to take place during the weekend of
the convention will be announced.

Delegates from the party's 34 member states will meet for a weekend of
platform discussions, skills-building workshops, committee meetings, a
business meeting of the Coordinating Committee, and a major rally on
Friday night at a local auditorium. Representatives from state Green
Parties considering or applying for affiliation in the national party,
Green candidates for state and local office, and other observers are
also expected.
U.S. Greens will welcome Greens visiting from numerous other countries,
including Carlos Fonesca of the Colombian Green Party; Adamou Garba of
the Green Party of Niger, who also serves as Secretary General for the
Fédération des Partis Écologiques d'Afrique; and representatives of
the Green Partiesof Ivory Coast, Chad, Korea, Nepal, and Canada.
"This is an exciting year for the Greens in Pennsylvania, and I'm
thrilled that Greens from around the country will be coming to share
some of that excitement with us," said Michael Morrill, the
Green Party nominee for governor of Pennsylvania.
"Greens from around the country will gather to plan the future
growth of the Green Party and learn from each other what has worked
best. We're turning our breakthrough 2000 campaign into a springboard
for a genuine national party, added Dean Myerson, the national political
coordinator of the Green Party.
