GREEN DELEGATES ENDORSE GREEN PARTY PLATFORM

Strong Green positions on jobs, health care, the environment, and other "real life" issues address what Democrats and Republicans won't talk about

DENVER, COLORADO -- Green Party delegates overwhelmingly approved the party's national platform on Saturday afternoon, June 24, on the first day of the Green Party National Nominating Convention at the Renaissance Hotel in Denver, Colorado.

The convention continues through Sunday, June 25, as delegates of states from all over the U.S.A. choose the Green Party presidential nominee.  The candidates are Steve Gaskin, Jello Biafra, and Ralph Nader.

According to Platform Committee Chair Steve Schmidt, "The Green Party offers a contrast to the middle-of-the-road marketing campaigns of the Democrats and Republicans."

The 2000 Green Platform, says Mr. Schmidt, has front running candidate Ralph Nader's support, and encompasses key themes of the Nader Campaign.
Both the platform and Mr. Nader address the need for democratic renewal and civic participation, and political reform issues such as campaign finance reform (Green Parties and candidates accept no corporate contributions), ethics, and ballot access.

Both the platform and Mr. Nader continue to stress the need to challenge the power of corporations over politics, health care, education, and nearly every aspect of modern life.

The Green Party Platform expresses strong support for national health insurance, a livable wage, cuts in military spending, and broad goals for human rights and freedoms, "kitchen sink" issues such as job security and stronger localized economic power, as well as a range of environmental positions.  Genetically modified food is singled out for special opposition.
