NEW YORK -- Green Party presidential candidate David Cobb will take his campaign to New York on the eve of the Republican National Convention and offer Green solutions for the pollution, destruction and divisiveness of the radical, right-wing Republican agenda. "The Green Party is the only party offering sensible and sustainable solutions to the problems created by a radical, right-wing Administration which has stolen peace and prosperity from the American people," said Cobb. "Our people want peace, but the Republicans have brought us war. We want clean air and water, but the Republicans want to burn coal and drill for oil in pristine wilderness. We want open government and due process but the Republicans create energy policy in secret and usurp the Constitution," said Cobb. Cobb has called for a massive investment in alternative energy to reduce pollution and global warming, create millions of jobs and eliminate the need to wage war on oil-rich nations. A study released on August 16 said that if fossil fuel use continues at its present pace, cities in California could see summertime temperatures increasing by 15 degrees with devastating consequences for agriculture, water supplies and human health. Cobb will outline solutions based on the innovative and progressive Green Party platform when he speaks at the "A Green World is Possible" festival on Saturday, August 28, in Manhattan's Washington Square Park, at approximately 1:40 and 4:40 p.m. Thousands of people are expected to participate in the festival which will feature a twenty foot tall George Bush doll, complete with Pinocchio nose; speakers; music and a place for people to make protest signs for the United for Peace and Justice March which will be held the following day. Green Party vice presidential candidate Patricia LaMarche, a broadcaster, nonprofit foundation director, and single mother of two, will join Cobb for Sunday's March. "A Green World is Possible" is sponsored by local and national Green Party organizations. The festival will celebrate the "four pillars" of the international Green movement: non-violence, ecology, grassroots democracy and social and economic justice. Interviews with David Cobb and Pat LaMarche can be arranged by contacting Blair Bobier, Cobb-LaMarche Media Coordinator, at 541.929.5755 or 414.364.1596. For more information:
