The Green Party presidential ticket of David Cobb and Pat LaMarche today re-affirmed their support for working families and the Million Worker March which will take place Sunday in Washington, D.C. "We better get this march going quickly because at the rate the Bush administration is going, we're not going to have a million workers left in this country," said Pat LaMarche. "The Green Party is the only party standing up for the rights and dignity of working people. The recent restricted and scripted debates between the two-party candidates demonstrate the establishment's abandonment of working families. Neither candidate said that every American deserves health care or a living wage. Neither talked about fair trade instead of free trade. Neither talked about democracy in the workplace. "Let's be clear where the Green Party stands; with the working men and women of this country. We stand for a repeal of Taft-Hartley and for fair taxation. Corporations used to pay a third of our tax revenue and that has fallen in the past sixty years to just 7%. And you know who is paying the difference: working people and the middle class," said David Cobb. The Green Party platform calls for single payer universal health care and for shifting budget priorities from the world's largest military budget to increased spending on people, public transportation, environmental protection, renewable energy and energy conservation. The platform also calls for a Universal Basic Income, or citizen dividend, to be paid to each adult in the country regardless of employment status as an economic human right, to provide a safety net and minimize bureaucracy and intrusion into people's privacy. To create millions of new family-wage jobs, Cobb-LaMarche and the Green Party call for creating renewable energy and reducing the standard work week to 30-35 hours.
