LAMARCHE AND GREEN MARINE LAMENT MISUSE OF TROOPS
Green Party vice presidential candidate Pat LaMarche
and Mark Wilson, a former Marine running as a Green for the U.S. Senate
in Washington state, said today that politicians are unnecessarily
putting our troops at risk.
LaMarche completed her second day of education and
training today at the Marine Corps Boot Camp in Parris Island, South
Carolina. She had accepted an invitation to participate in a program
designed to inform community leaders about the rigors of Boot Camp.
Wilson, the only veteran in the U.S. Senate race in Washington, is also
the father and son of military veterans.
“The dedication of these young people in Boot Camp
is incredible. They love their country and their pursuit of growth and
excellence is amazing. It is just so incredibly sad that they can be
dispatched at the whims of an out-of-touch and misguided president,”
said LaMarche.
LaMarche said the recruits are busy twenty hours.
Some are “kids” from the city who not only have to learn how to
swim, they have to learn how to abandon ship and rescue survivors all in
a very short period of time.
Wilson, whose family knows the rigors of war and
boot camp training, says our country would be better off with a
renewable domestic energy policy than going to war for cheap oil.
“Risking the lives of Americans to secure fossil
fuels on the other side of the world is immoral and stupid. We should be
devoting our wealth and genius to creating clean energy solutions for
the twenty first century,” said Wilson.
LaMarche spent time interviewing Marine recruits for
a radio program she is producing for broadcast in Maine, following the
election, on WEBB and WMME. She spoke with kids from Maine and called
their parents and grandparents to let them know of the broadcast and
that their off-spring were well.
After spending two days at Boot Camp, LaMarche now
has more military experience than most of the upper echelon of the Bush
Administration.
