Greens to join April 29 antiwar march in New York City
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Green Party candidates, leaders, and members will join the 'March for Peace, Justice, and Democracy' in New York City on Saturday, April 29 <http://www.april29.org>.
Michael Berg, who is seeking the Delaware Green Party's nomination for the U.S. House <http://bergforcongress.us>,
will lead the April 29 march with others who have lost family members in the war. Mr. Berg's son Nicholas was taken hostage and murdered in Iraq on May 7, 2004.
The April 29 march will highlight the following demands: "End the war in Iraq -- Bring all our troops home now!"; "No war on Iran!"; and "Stand up for immigrant and women's rights!"
The Green Party has called for immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq, and have sharply criticized Democrats and Republicans who supported the Bush Administration's invasion plans and favor continued occupation <http://www.gp.org/press/pr_2006_04_14.shtml>.
Greens have also urged Americans to reject President Bush's threats of a military attack on Iran <http://www.gp.org/press/pr_2006_03_14.shtml>.
"While the leadership of the Democratic and Republican parties support an imperial foreign policy, the Green Party has emerged as America's Peace Party. My campaign is part of a 'Peace Slate' for Congress in the 2006 election, and we challenge all voters who oppose the war not to waste their votes on pro-war candidates," said Michael Berg.
