Greens to speak at Camp Democracy, Thursday, September 14
-
A message from Michael Berg, Delaware Green candidate for Congress, will be delivered by hand
to Camp Democracy by peace activist Mark Creek Water, who will walk from Delaware, leaving
Thursday morning.
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Green Party of the United States, which is co-sponsoring Camp Democracy on
Thursday, September 14, will showcase Green candidates and leaders throughout the day.
Camp Democracy is a 17-day event focused on ending the war, ending injustices in the U.S.,
and holding the Bush Administration and Congress accountable.
Camp Democracy is nonpartisan and does not endorse any party or candidate; Greens
speaking at Camp Democracy are speaking not as candidates but as activists.
Among the featured speakers on Thursday are Joyce Robinson-Paul, D.C. Statehood Green candidate for
U.S. Senator <dcstatehoodgreen.org/election2006/candidate.php?annc_id=150>;
Steve Shafarman, Green activist and writer, speaking on guaranteed basic income; and Bob
Fitrakis, journalist and Green candidate for Governor of Ohio<bobforohio.com>.
Greens will speak in the main tent between 4:15 and 5:30 p.m. Mr. Fitrakis, who reported on the
numerous allegations of irregularities in the 2004 election in Ohio, will discuss the
increasing threat of election theft in an afternoon workshop from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. along
with Jonathan Simon and Sally Castleman, co-founders of Election Defense Alliance.
Michael Berg, Delaware Green candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives
<bergforcongress.us>,
will send a message to Camp Democracy to be delivered by hand (and foot) by Mark Creek Water, a long-time peace
walker who just completed the 3000 mile Crosswalk America. Mr. Creek Water will take
Michael's message and walk with it to Camp Democracy in Washington DC. Mr. Berg, whose son
Nick was taken hostage and murdered in Iraq in May, 2004, plans to walk with Mark for the first
three miles, leaving from the Newark train station (the intersection of South College and
Route 896) at 9 a.m. on September 14.
The other co-sponsors on September 14 are Election Defense Alliance and Verified Voting. A
schedule of Camp Democracy's activities on September 14 is posted at
<campdemocracy.org/sites/campdemocracy.org/files/downloads/sept14.htm>.
