SACRAMENTO - Green Party of California congressional candidates Tuesday described the GOP convention in New York as nothing more than staged "infomercials" by a "fascist" party - and then said the real story was out on the streets not inside Madison Square Garden.

The GOP National Convention, which got underway Monday, has been besieged by tens of thousands of demonstrators - including a big Green Party contingent - who have accused the Bush Administration of ruining the environment, costing Americans jobs, freedom and security and waging an unpopular, immoral war in Iraq.

"The events going on inside the Republican convention are of no importance. We know the Republican agenda and we disapprove of it.  The real events are going on outside in the streets.  That is where you can hear the voice of the people of this nation, and they are not happy.  They want peace and an change of direction for our government," said Pat Gray, Green Party congressional candidate in the 12th CD (San Francisco/San Mateo).

And, Terry Baum, a Green Party candidate for Congress opposing Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi in the 8th CD (San Francisco), called the GOP bash "elaborately staged infomercials...in "lock-step obedience to party big-shots during the day, followed by opulent corporate binges at chic restaurants at night."

"As the Fascist Republican Convention gets underway thousands of American citizens are saying no to Bush and his right wing attempt to scare America into waging war against the rest of the world. Those protesting the Bush agenda know the true weapons of mass destruction are poverty, racism and war," added Tom Lash Green Party candidate for  Congress 46th CD (Huntington Beach).
