US Senate candidate Todd Chretien condemns
Israel request for more civilian-killing cluster bombs from Pentagon, calls use
of such explosives 'outrageous'
SAN FRANCISCO -- US Senate candidate Todd Chretien - writing in his
campaign blog today - condemned Israel's request that the Pentagon speed up
shipments of cluster bombs, calling the use of such anti-personnel explosives "outrageous."
Chretien, running on the Green Party ticket against Democratic Party Sen.
Dianne Feinstein, called on the incumbent lawmaker to speak out against the
request and asked voters to contact Feinstein to stop the killing in Lebanon.
"Tell her you hold her personally responsible for the deaths of the more
than 1,000 Lebanese children, women and men, killed by Israel in the past
month .Tell her you also hold her responsible for the more than 200 Palestinians Israel has
murdered in Gaza and the West Bank since June 25," said Chretien.
Chretien - who will be participating in several weekend marches and rallies
against the war in Iraq and in Lebanon - said Israel's invasion is "inspiring" a new resistance in the Middle East.
"The resistance of the Lebanese and Palestinian people to Israel's
bombardment and invasion is inspiring a new mood across the Middle East.
Government's from Egypt to Jordan to Saudi Arabia stand exposed before
their millions of impoverished people as corrupt and selfish elites who
care more about defending the U.S. empire's access to cheap oil than they
do about their own populations.
"The united resistance of the Sunni Palestinians and the Shia Lebanese also
opens up an opportunity for the Iraqi people to overcome the divide and
conquer tactics used by the United States occupation force in its attempt
to foment a religious civil war," he explained.
Chretien also said in the U.S., "opposition to Israel's war on Palestine
and Lebanon is giving new life to the anti-war movement. Arab Americans
and Muslim communities are taking the lead in organizing dozens of protests
across the country."
