Chandler Says U.S Now Has “War Party”; Chandler Will Ride the 7th District. |
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Chandler Says U.S Now Has “War Party” (Arvada, Colorado) The Colorado Green Party’s seventh congressional district candidate, Dave Chandler, said today that the Congress of the United States is apparently ready to join the Bush war party, even in the face of the latest efforts for peace in the Middle East. “It is becoming very clear that we have only one political party in Washington, D.C.,” said Chandler. “And that is the ‘War Party.’” Chandler cited news reports yesterday (Wednesday) that Bush met with congressional leaders to “make his case for maximum flexibility to carry out his policy of regime change.” And, that Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle said, “I think there will be a vote well before the elections.” (Washington Post) “Bush wants a blank check and it looks like the Congress is going to give him a blank check,” Chandler said. “The war fever is so high and the Congress so afraid of questioning this military adventure that apparently they are going to sacrifice the Constitution just so they can get back home and campaign.” “For Americans who want a reasoned and substantive debate, who want to see proof and not just Cheney’s assertions about Iraq, who are concerned about divisions between us and our allies, Bush and the Congress are saying ‘give war a chance,’” Chandler said. Instead, Chandler maintains that now is the time to slow down, be rational and act like grown-ups. “Bush, Cheney and company insisted that inspectors return to Iraq. They need to take ‘yes’ for an answer, stop acting like petulant children, and work constructively to facilitate the task of the weapons inspectors. Anything less than a sincere effort to aid the United Nations in avoiding violent conflict with Iraq will be a demonstration of the moral and ethical bankruptcy of the Bush administration on the issue of peace and war.” Chandler said that he encourages true-blue American patriots who respect the Constitution, understand that an unprovoked attack on another country is wrong, and want to exercise their freedom of speech, to join him next week at rallies Friday and Saturday to urge peace and understanding in the world instead of war, violence, and destruction. Rally to protest Bush visit to Colorado, planned for 720-956-0700. Chandler Will ‘Ride’ the Seventh Congressional District (Arvada, Colorado) Dave Chandler, Green Party candidate for U.S. Congress, will ride his bicycle the length of the new seventh district on Sunday, September 29, 2002. “We will start around Quincy and Kipling in Lakewood, and finish at approximately Quincy and Chambers in Aurora,” Chandler said. “You see things very differently from a bicycle. It’s a big district and we are going to be on the streets and on the bike paths to demonstrate our commitment to going the distance to represent the values of the residents of the seventh district.” The ride will begin at 10:00 a.m. and should take about five hours to complete. Rain date for the ride will be Saturday, October 5, 2002. Anyone wishing to ride the 50 mile route with Dave can contact the campaign for more details. Dave Chandler |
