nomination, will speak on 'The Green Rising in California: Electoral
Alternatives for Progressives in 04' NOTE TO REPORTERS: Mr. Camejo will be available to talk to reporters following the event, at the same location, beginning at 5:30 p.m. WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Peter Miguel Camejo, on state ballots for the 2004 Green presidential nomination, will make a public appearance in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, March 28, at the University of the District of Columbia. The event is part of of Mr. Camejo's tour of eastern U.S. cities to speak on 'The Green Rising in California: Electoral Alternatives for Progressives in '04.' Mr. Camejo, who came in third in 2002 and fourth in the 2003 election for Governor of California, will present evidence of the Green Party's strength in California, such as his campaign's breakthrough in the televised debates for the Governor's race, the strong showing (47%) by Green candidate Matt Gonzalez in the 2003 mayoral race in San Francisco, and polls showing that Green Party voters are 2-to-1 people of color. Mr. Camejo will also address the complex issues around the presidential election. He will advocate a strong, unapologetic Green Party campaign, which he believes is the best way to promote effective opposition to George W. Bush's policies and the dominance of the two-party system. Mr. Camejo and others have recently formed the Avocado Education Project, a nonprofit designed to provide a forum for the debate in the U.S. on the issue of multi-party democracy. Peter Camejo won 99 of 132 Green Party state delegates in the California primaries on Super Tuesday (March 9), garnering 75.4 percent of the vote. The National Nominating Convention of the Green Party of the United States, titled 'Forward 2004!', will take place in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, June 23-28. Joining Mr. Camejo will be Jesse Hagopian of the International Socialist Organization and Washington Teachers Union (noted here for identification purposes only), and three D.C. Statehood Green Party candidates: Arturo Griffiths, running for the At-Large seat on D.C. City Council; Michele Tingling-Clemmons, running for the Ward 7 Council seat; and Adam Eidinger, running for D.C. Shadow U.S. Senator.
