The D.C. Board of Elections and Ethics' refusal to release write-in names and vote counts from the primary makes delegate apportioning uncertain.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The D.C. Statehood Green Party, at its general membership meeting on May 6, selected delegates to attend the Green Party Presidential Nomination Convention

The convention will take place June 23-28 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, at the Midwest Center, Milwaukee Theater, and the Milwaukee Hyatt Regency.  Delegates from state parties affiliated with the Green Party of the United States will choose the Green nominee on Saturday, June 26.  The national party may also decide not  to run a nominee, or to endorse the independent candidacy of Ralph Nader.

Green presidential hopeful David Cobb drew the most Statehood Green primary votes, with 36.79%.  Write-ins came in second, with 31.87%.  18.39% chose Sheila Bilyeu; 12.95% voted for 'no candidate.'  But the apportioning of D.C. delegates committed to candidates, in accord with January 13 primary election votes, remains uncertain.  The D.C. Board of Elections and Ethics has refused to release the names of write-in candidates and the percentages they received.

On February 6, David Best, one of the write-in voters affected, filed a legal complaint about the board's obstruction.  The case will be argued before the D.C. Court of Appeals, Judges Kern, Ruiz, and Washington presiding, on May 25.

The D.C. Statehood Green Party delegates are Asa Gordon, Debony Heart, Alex Hogan, Jay Marx, Mike McGuire, Dean Myerson, Maya O'Connor, Chris Otten, Michele Tingling-Clemmons, Rick Tingling-Clemmons, and Steve Shafarman.  Alternate delegates are Michael Berler, David Best, Laverne Butler, and Jim Schulman.

The Statehood Green Party's general assembly also voted on instructions for the D.C. delegates:

(1) Delegates representing the D.C. Statehood Green Party at the National Convention in Milwaukee shall not vote or select 'No Nominee' or 'No Candidate' option for President of the United States except for the first round of voting when the results of the Presidential Primary shall be honored.  Delegates may override this instruction at the convention if 8 out of the 11 delegates vote to do so.

(2) Delegates representing the D.C. Statehood Green Party at the National Convention in Milwaukee shall not vote to endorse any candidate for President of the United States unless they have been nominated during the convention.
