Incumbent Ray Browne Will Be Challenged in General Election

WASHINGTON, DC Local democracy activist Adam Eidinger will kickoff his campaign for U.S. 'Shadow' Representative for DC on Friday, June 11 at the intersection of 18th St. and Columbia Road in Adams Morgan. Adam is seeking the nomination of the DC Statehood Green Party. (If it rains, the kickoff will be rescheduled to July 2.)

WHO: Adam Eidinger, Candidate for DC 'Shadow' U.S. Representative and the DC Statehood Green Party with fire spinners, live deejays and other musical performances and the largest DC flag in the city

WHAT: Campaign Kickoff Event

WHEN: Friday, June 11 from 8-11pm

WHERE: The intersection of 18th St. and Columbia Road NW

Adam endorses the DC Statehood Green Party platform and advocates full voting representation in the U.S House and Senate, local power over all branches of DC government & budget, eliminating federal oversight of DC's local budget, giving all DC residents the right to vote in local elections, and ensuring that local ballot  initiatives are implemented.

Adam has a unique plan to achieve DC Statehood: civic disobedience. "When elected, I promise to use my position to organize a District-wide holiday on October 1st (the beginning of the fiscal year) that will close all District government offices, including schools, and create incentives for private companies to follow suit," he said.

"By giving District workers the day off, we will encourage the greatest number of people to go to Congress and demand their rights. This 'DC Statehood Holiday' will inspire neighbors and friends to get active and involved. Together we will once and for all end the tyranny of the federal government," he continued.

Adam is currently experiencing the tyranny of the federal government as he is pending trial for an arrest on October 1, 2003 while attempting to petition U.S. House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert's (R-Ill.) office for budget autonomy for DC. His trial, with six other DC democracy activists, is scheduled to begin on July 6, 2004.

Since DC has no vote in Congress no Senators, and only a non-voting Delegate to the U.S. House we have a 'Shadow' delegation that will step in as our representative in Congress when DC becomes a state. Until then, the 'Shadow' Representative serves as an advocate for democracy in DC.  The position is unpaid.
