Ray Browne's Government Website Violates DC Election Law. |
D.C. Statehood Green Party FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Browne's Government Website Explicitly Endorses His Reelection WASHINGTON, DC -- Incumbent U.S. Shadow Representative Ray Browne is violating DC election laws by using his government website (http://usrepraybrowne.dc.gov/main.shtm) to support his reelection. DC Code '1-1106.51(a) states: "No resources of the District of Columbia government shall be used to support or oppose any candidate for elected office." Browne's government hosted website currently includes two recent press releases: "DC Council Unanimously Endorses Rep. Browne for Re-Election" and "Rep. Browne Seeks a Third Term". Possible penalties for misusing his government website include a $5,000 fine and/or six months in prison. "Ray Browne should be held accountable for misusing his government website," Adam Eidinger, DC Statehood Green Party candidate for U.S. "Shadow" Representative said, "If he wants to be re-elected, he should be forced to purchase his own URL and purchase his own hosting service, like my campaign has already done. Mr. Browne's use of government resources to promote his campaign should be immediately stopped by the DC.gov webmaster," says Eidinger. The Adam 4 Shadow campaign web site http://adam4shadow.com/ was recently upgraded by volunteer webmaster Nikolas Schiller http://nikolasshiller.com/. "The Adam 4 Shadow website accurately reflects the time and hard work Adam has put toward DC statehood," Schiller said. "Adam's website has the proof in the form of streaming videos, photos, and a blog, which not only make the website interesting, it shows Adam's passion for democracy in the District of Columbia." About Adam: Adam endorses the DCSGP platform and advocates full voting representation in the U.S House and Senate, local power over all branches of DC government & budget, eliminating federal oversight of DCs local budget, giving all DC residents the right to vote in local elections, and ensuring that local ballot initiatives are implemented. Adam ran for U.S. Representative in 2002, coming in second to Democrat Ray Browne with over 15,000 votes. ### |
