WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Green Party Vice Presidential candidate Pat LaMarche will lead an overnight vigil outside of Vice President Dick Cheney's mansion, from 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 25 until 6:00 a.m., Sunday, September 26.

The vigil is part of Ms. LaMarche's two week 'Left Out Tour' to 14 cities across the U.S. to call attention to Americans whose economic situation leaves them homeless, jobless, and without health care <http://www.gp.org/press/pr_09_20_04.html>. In each of the 14 cities, Ms. LaMarche is spending the night at a local homeless shelter or on the street, and is hosting a donation drive for blankets, towels, toiletries, and other nonperishable items for the shelters.

Ms. LaMarche is also promoting participation in the National Homeless and Low Income Voter Registration week, September 26 through October 2.

The vigil in Washington, D.C. will take place outside of Vice President Cheney's mansion, which is on the grounds of the Washington Naval Observatory, located on Massachusetts Avenue, NW. Ms. LaMarche, members of the D.C. Statehood Green Party, and area homeless activists will collect nonperishable items for local shelters during the vigil.

To schedule an interview with Pat LaMarche or for more information, call Marnie Glickman at 503-313-7919.  Ms. LaMarche will also be available for interview during the vigil.

Pat LaMarche is the Green Party's nominee for Vice President of the United States. In 1998, Ms. LaMarche ran for Governor of Maine and received 7% of the vote.

A well-known radio personality in Maine, Ms. LaMarche raised her two children, Becky and John, on her own as a single mother. Using her late mother's name, Genny Judge, as her pseudonym, she found kidneys for dying children, raised money for poverty-stricken youth, and helped garner support for relief crews after 9/11.

Ms. LaMarche has also promoted single-payer national health insurance and aid for families suffering during the nation's current economic crisis. Each year, she lives and broadcasts in a tank with the National Guard and collects approximately 60 tons of food for the Salvation Army in Maine, and once lived and broadcasted in a roller coaster to raise $14,000 for ill and injured children. On another occasion, Ms. LaMarche broadcasted while riding a bicycle across Maine to benefit the American Lung Association.
