Nader to Appear at Fundraiser for DC Statehood Candidates |
THE D.C. STATEHOOD GREEN PARTY RALPH NADER TO SPEAK AT A FUNDRAISER FOR CANDIDATES OF THE D.C. STATEHOOD GREEN PARTY *** WHEN: Saturday, September 28, 2002, at 6:30 p.m. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. and will take place at Local 16, a new restaurant in Washington, D.C. Admission to the fundraiser is a minimum $20.00 donation. (NOTE TO MEDIA: Reporters wishing to cover the event will be admitted free.) Steve Donkin for Mayor and Michele Tingling-Clemmons for At-Large D.C. Council Member lead the 2002 list of Statehood Green candidates. Voters registered as Statehood Green confirmed the party's already declared candidates in the September 10 primary election, and four new candidates, including well-known civic activist Debby Hanrahan for Council Chair, were added to the slate as write-ins. (A list of the candidates is appended below.) In 2000, Ralph Nader made three campaign stops in the District, including a fundraiser for the D.C. Statehood Green Party and the Twenty D.C. Citizens lawsuit (Adams v. Clinton, seeking D.C. self-governance) at the Josephine Butler Building, a rally at the University of the District of Columbia. On histour of the city, Mr. Nader stopped in Anacostia, a neighborhood in Southeast D.C. -- a part of the District hat Mr. Nader was the only candidate to visit. On November 5, 2000, Mr. Nader held the last of his campaign 'Super-Rallies' in downtown D.C., an event that filled the MCI Arena with 10,000 people. The theme of the Super-Rally was Statehood for the District of Columbia; guest speakers included Danny Glover, Phil Donahue, Cornel West, Randall Robinson, and Michael Moore.
