THE D.C. STATEHOOD GREEN PARTY MEDIA ADVISORY Contact: Scott McLarty, Media Coordinator 202-518-5624, scottmclarty@yahoo.com THE D.C. STATEHOOD GREEN PARTY ENDS THE 2002 CAMPAIGN SEASON WITH A TORCHLIGHT PARADE FOR STATEHOOD (MONDAY) AND AN ELECTION DAY VICTORY PARTY Statehood Greens, recognized by The Washington Post as D.C.'s opposition party, prepare for Election Day WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Candidates and other members and friends of the D.C. Statehood Green Party will celebrate the final days of the 2002 campaign season with a Torchlight Parade for D.C. statehood and democracy on Monday evening, November 4, and an Election Day Victory Party on Tuesday. An October 28 Washington Post editorial recognized that the D.C. Statehood Green Party has emerged as the District's opposition party, running a full slate in constrast to the "low state" of the "noncompetitive" Republicans. The editorial declined to endorse any Statehood Green candidates; only incumbents -- a lone liberal Republican among a list of Democrats -- received the nod. But the Post noted the party's "growing presence on the political scene" and praised Statehood Green candidates for being "well-versed in their party's positions and eager to make their views known." ("For D.C. Council", http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A28435-2002Oct27.html ) NOTE TO REPORTERS: Statehood Green candidates will be available to speak to reporters at the Election Day Victory Party, which takes place at Larry's Lounge near Dupont Circle.
