'Beyond the Dream' Forum on Dr. King, March 16 at UDC, Sponsored by Statehood Greens. |
D.C. Statehood Green Party Tuesday, March 15, 2005 Contact: 'BEYOND THE DREAM' FORUM ON DR. KING, MARCH 16 AT U.D.C., SPONSORED BY STATEHOOD GREENS WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Black Caucus of the D.C. Statehood Green Party will hold a forum titled 'Beyond the Dream' on the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., on Wednesday, March 16, 7-9 p.m. at the University of the District of Columbia, Building 41, Room A04. "Dr. King has been portrayed to children in the U.S. as a dreamer, with little emphasis on his history as a fighter against injustice," said Rick Tingling-Clemmons, Ward 7 representative on the D.C. Statehood Green Party's steering committee. "This program offers a more complete view of him as a protestor against the Vietnam War, poverty, and injustice in his own words, who lost his life for sharing his analysis and taking a principled stance against the greatest purveyor of injustice and exploitation in the world -- his own government. We will present information on strategies challenging the electoral college and extending the struggle for voting rights for our communities." The program will feature two speakers: -- Jared Ball, at-large member of the Steering Committee of the D.C. Statehood Green Party, member of the Green Party Black Caucus, educator and independent journalist. Mr. Ball teaches Introduction to African American Studies at Frostburg State University and Black Culture in the United States at the University of Maryland at College Park, where he is currently working on a Ph.D. in Journalism and Media Studies. He is the founder/creator of FreeMix Radio: The Original Mixtape Radio Show, which is the subject of his dissertation, the focus of which is African American history, journalism, and underground/alternative media. Statehood Green Party and member of the Green Party Black Caucus, founder and executive director of the Douglass Institute of Government (DIG). DIG is an 'Educational Think Tank' based in Washington, D.C. Mr. Gordon also serves as Secretary-General of the Sons & Daughters of the United States Color Troops, which is chartered by the African American Civil War Memorial Freedom Foundation to augment the foundation's mission to use the national monument The Spirit of Freedom to honor the historical legacy of those who served in the United States Colored Troops during the American Civil War. Mr. Gordon's lawsuit Gordon vs. Gore and ongoing campaign to force implementation of the 14th Amendment, Section 2 with its penalties for violating voting rights, would expose the racist nature of the electoral college and overturn the unconstitutional 'winner take all' system currently in place (see <http://www.gp.org/press/pr_10_18_04.html>). A retired NASA astrodynamicist, Mr. Gordon's scientific work is referenced in Ivan van Sertima's 'Blacks in Science Ancient and Modern.' MORE INFORMATION The D.C. Statehood Green Party
