Health Care, Environment and Strengthening Coalitions are Topics of Community Education Day. |
March 06, 2003 Health Care, the Environment and Strengthening Coalitions are among the topics to be discussed at the Spring Community Education Day of the Delaware A. Philip Randolph Institute to be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2003. The site for the event is Peoples Settlement Association, 408 E. 8th Street in Wilmington. "Our Spring Education Day is the time when we share an overview of the issues the chapter is involved in and asses our next steps", said Peaches Whalen, Delaware A. Philip Randolph Institute chapter president. "Under this year's theme, 'Reviewing Our Challenges, Strengthening Our Coalitions', we will discuss our current work in health care and environmental justice and consider the need to address economic development issues that focus on the blue collar and business development needs in our community", Whalen continued. This Education Day is a daylong event. This year's agenda includes the opportunity for citizens who are certified voter registrars to renew their certification. Also, there will be a morning panel discussion on HealthCare, Environmental Justice and Economic Development. The afternoon session will consist of a review of Wilmington voter performance in the last election cycle with a presentation on Instant Runoff Voting by the Green Party of Delaware and a panel discussion on Strengthening Coalitions. Organizations participating in this event include: Common Cause of Delaware, the Delaware Coalition of Black Trade Unionists, the Delaware Association of Minority Contractors, the Green Party of Delaware, the Latin Political Action Coalition, the NAACP, the Center for Health and Environmental Justice and the United States Hispanic Leadership Institute. Several community-based organizations will display information on their activities. This event is free and open to the public. The Delaware chapter of the A.
