The Green Party of Delaware will hold its annual
state convention from 9:00 AM -3:00 PM, Saturday, May 18, in the
amphitheater of Delaware Technical and Community College, 4th and
Shipley, Wilmington. Parking is available in the lot and garage across
from the main buildings.
The Green Party has become an important force in Delaware politics, as
this springıs convention will show. Highlights of the convention
include:
Dean Myerson, National Political Coordinator, Green
Party of the United States, will outline what the party is working to
accomplish and has already accomplished throughout the country.
The issues committees are preparing platform
statements which the convention will debate and vote on. These
statements will represent the partyıs official position on its major
issues:

An end to mandatory minimum sentencing
-
Limits on high stakes testing and the
neighborhood school movement
-
An energy policy friendly to Delaware residents,
not the power companies
-
Better protection of the environment
-
Support for single-payer universal health
care
-
Support for the peace movement and reductions in
military spending.

Most important, the convention will nominate
Vivian Houghton for Attorney General and provide her campaign a
rousing kick-off.
She will explain her most important concerns:
*End the death penalty
*Prosecute white collar crime
*Enforce environmental laws and stop toxic dumping in poor
neighborhoods
*Revoke the charters of destructive corporations
*End mandatory minimum sentencing
*Promote equity of race, gender, and sexual orientation
As are all Green Party meetings, the state convention
is open to all and all are welcome.
