The seven-member Coordinating Council of the Green Party of Delaware (GPDE) today restated its call for Tom Gordon to resign as NCC Executive. Mr. Gordonšs recent admission of using public employees in local political campaigns during the recent primaries was further proof that he used tax payers' money to undermine the democratic process.

"This apology is as lame as it gets", said Bernie August, Newark Local Representative to the GPDE Coordinating Council. "If you are caught as Mr. Gordon was and then say you are sorry - it just isnšt enough," August stressed. "Letting Tom Gordon get away with this would tear at the fabric of our democracy. While he has done some good things for the county, these actions are rendered worthless by his blowing the thing people most want of their elected officials ... honesty and trustworthiness," concluded Mr. August.

Vivian Houghton, Green Party candidate for Attorney General also criticized Mr. Gordonšs actions. "Under different circumstances, Tom Gordon's apology for his inappropriate use of county workers to further his own political agenda could be treated with respect," she said. "Unfortunately, none of the evidence indicates that Gordon made his apology as a result of independent self-scrutiny. Instead, he seems to have apologized only after he was caught and criticized from all quarters. In such situations we have to remember that there is a big difference between taking responsibility for one's actions and simply trying to squirm out of accepting the consequences for those actions. In this instance, Gordon is doing the latter and in doing so he displays the very lack of ethical vision that contaminates both Democratic and Republican parties. The proof of this contamination is everywhere, in people's mounting cynicism toward the political process and in embarrassingly low voter turnouts. Tom Gordon has done us all a disservice and should resign because of it. If he really wants to make up for his efforts to undermine the democratic process, he should resign and devote himself to working for one of the citizen groups like Common Cause that work hard to fight the corruption that people like Gordon foster while in office."

The seven members of the Green Party of Delaware Coordinating Council are the elected leaders of GPDE and include representatives from each local throughout the state.
