Georgia Green Party |
Athens' Green Candidate First on Ballot in Georgia. |
For the first time in Georgia's history, a Green Party candidate has obtained ballot access. On Friday morning, Edwin Vaughan, running for the 7th District commissioner seat in Athens-Clarke County, learned by phone that the local Superintendent of Elections had approved his petitions for ballot access. For several months, Vaughan and ACC Green Party volunteers have canvassed door to door for the 341 registered 7th District voter signatures. The 7th District covers much of the residential center of the county. The race for the 7th includes two Republicans, David Redman and Bill Bushnell, and Democrat Kathy Hoard. Along with North Carolina, Georgia maintains some of the nation's most prohibitive laws regarding third party ballot access, requiring a higher percentage of signatures than most states. Vaughan's website, www.edfordistrict7.org,
provides his biography, position papers, and updated campaign news. |
