Diverse Lineup of Musicians Supports
Nan Garrett for Governor

Oct. 18 benefit at the International Artist Guild will raise funds for Green Party write-in candidate

ATLANTA - Oct 10, 2002 (Garrett For Governor Campaign) - A diverse group of musicians has come together for the common cause of supporting Georgia Green Party gubernatorial candidate Nan Garrett in her effort to give Georgia voters more choices. Hip hop acts Rudi Deville and Ishues, up-and-coming funk/rock outfit Fambooey and metal newcomers Anónimo will share the stage Friday, Oct. 18, 9 p.m. at the International Artist Guild in Atlanta.

"Georgia's repressive and regressive ballot access laws have once again kept the Georgia Green Party off the ballot," said Garrett. "I am running an aggressive write-in campaign, seeking over 40,000 votes which would give our statewide candidates ballot access in 2004 without having to petition."

Garrett, a former Clayton County judge who presently works as an attorney with the state, opposes drug prohibition laws which disproportionately affect minorities, and advocates regional transportation solutions over more road building.

"While our rapidly-deteriorating air quality continues to kill and hospitalize Georgians, the Republicans and Democrats seem bent on increasing urban sprawl and pollution," said Garrett. "Our air quality in Atlanta is already worse than L.A., and I don't see how building a Northern Arc addresses this public health crisis."

Garrett's campaign is working to raise funds for cable advertising in the days leading up to the Nov. 5 election. Development for the ads has already been donated, and Georgia's diverse music scene has turned out in support of Georgia's pro-diversity candidate.

Politically conscious M.C. and Attica Sound Productions artist Ishues leads off the lineup. A 25-year-old native of Washington, D.C., Ishues brings his music and message to Georgia by way of Trenton, Pleasantville and Atlantic City, N.J.

"From topics to tempos, his varied life experiences and lyrical skill provide him with an abundance of firepower to blaze upon the masses," said David Freeman of Midnight Management. This veteran performer and past opener for Outkast brings to the stage a reputation for moving audiences mentally as well as physically.

Another musical act with a reputation for getting audiences in motion is Fambooey, a jamming funk/rock band that recently reassembled in Atlanta after first coming together in Indiana. Dubbed "Atlanta's new must-see band" by AtlantaShows.com, Fambooey features former David Ryan Harris bassist Rob Henson and former Cool for August drummer Jason Sipe

Next in the lineup is emerging hip hop artist Rudi Deville, an Alabama native who is ready to make a splash nationally. Not yet 30 years old, Deville is already a 15-year hip hop veteran who has been self-supported  since age 15. A past contributor to rap group Public Domain, Deville performed in 30 cities leading up to the last presidential election in support of the NAACP Voter Registration Hip Hop Tour.

Deville's website is located at: http://www.rudideville.com/

Rounding out the lineup will be the debut performance of Anónimo, a group of Colombian expatriates and Georgia State University music students. These newcomers are heavy and riff-based, with plenty of chops. Think Soundgarden en español.

Music begins promptly at 9 p.m. and the cover at the door is $5. All proceeds go toward campaign advertising in the days leading up to the Nov. 5 election. The International Artist Guild (IAG) is located at 845 Memorial  Drive in Atlanta. From I-75/85, take I-20 East, exit left at Glenwood, turn left on Memorial Drive and look for the IAG sign immediately on your left. From Little Five Points, take Moreland Avenue to Memorial Drive, turn  right, go 0.6 miles and look for the IAG sign on your left.
