Charles Sumblin to Seek Green Party Nod for Wrightsville Mayor's Race. |
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Charles Sumblin Announces Plans to Seek Party Nod for Wrightsville Mayor's Race Charles Sumblin, a former two term member of the state Coordinating Council of the Georgia Green Party announced today his intention to seek the endorsement of the Party at its 2003 Convention for his bid to serve as Mayor of Wrightsville, Georgia. "That's fantastic," said Badili Jones, co-chair of the Georgia Green Party. "I'm elated that a veteran in the struggle for civil rights and democracy is stepping forward to run as a Green to serve the people of Wrightsville." Mr. Sumblin won the Party's endorsement for his previous run for Mayor at the 1999 Americus Convention. He went on to win 18% of the vote in a three way race in 1999. Charles Sumblin is active with the Southern Christian Leadership Council in Johnson County as well as the Middle Georgia Justice League. Until his recent retirement from Federal service, he served as the shop steward of his American Federation of Government Employees local, at the VA Hospital in Dublin Georgia. He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam and as a police officer in Dekalb County and in various towns across Central Georgia. Charles, a native of Dublin Georgia, is a father and grandfather, now married to Charlene Sumblin, a native of Wrightsville, where he has lived since the mid - 90's.
