NORMAL, IL -- Green Party Candidate Jason Wallace
will formally announce his candidacy for the U.S. House of Representatives
at a press conference on Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at 5 p.m. on the
campus of Illinois State University.
Wallace, a veteran of the current Iraq War and a senior Politics and Government major at ISU is
challenging incumbent Rep. Jerry Weller, for the 11th District. Wallace has been endorsed by both
the McLean County and Will County Green Parties. The top five priorities of his campaign are
Social Justice, Education, Healthcare, Veteran's Benefits, and Renewable Energy.
"Because I am young, any vote I make will be a vote that I will have to live with. Therefore,
my votes will be made with the best intentions for the future of this country. Being a scholar,
a veteran, and experienced activist, I can offer fresh hope and dedication to Capitol Hill," says
Wallace.
Born and raised in McLean County, Wallace has been a committed local community activist and
grassroots organizer for the past four years. Wallace is credited for founding and coordinating
the Central Illinois Bill of Rights Defense Committee (CIBORDC). He served as the local
contact for the national Bill of Rights Defense Committee organization as well. The
purpose of the CIBORDC was to educate citizens about the issues surrounding the balance between security
and freedom, as well as, convince the local city councils to adopt resolutions opposing the USA
PATRIOT Act.
An alumnus of Heartland Community College, Wallace's involvements include being a member of
the Student Senate and Project R.I.S.E. He is also a founding member of the English Honor
Society, Sigma Kappa Delta and served as the Public Relations Secretary, Vice-President,
International Convention Voting Delegate, and Interim President of Phi Theta Kappa
International Honor Society of Community Colleges. From these organizations, and several
others, Jason became dedicated to hearing what was not only best for students but also the
citizens in the community.
As the Student Trustee, Jason also served as the Illinois Community College Board Student Advisory
Committee Local Issues Subcommittee Chair, MIS/Research Advisory Committee, and Heartland
Community College Student Representative. He also represented Heartland Community College at the
Illinois Board of Higher Education Student Advisory Committee (IBHE-SAC) meetings, during
