Indiana Green Party now videoconferencing instead of driving hours for meetings. |
Indiana Green Party November 3, 2003 Indiana Green Party now videoconferencing instead of driving hours for meetings! The IGP has conducted most of its 2003 meetings using a statewide video-conferencing system, making meetings easily accessible to all members. Indiana University and the Indiana Department of Education have granted the use of its video-conferencing and distance learning networks to several faculty Green members. However, only three sites are currently available; IU Indianapolis, IU at Bloomington and IU South Bend. The network isn't available during summer academic recess. To allow for greater flexibility and access, the IGP
Coordinating Committee is working on a lower tech solution: a 24/7/365
grassroots network of PCs with web cams, and mics with access to the
public Internet. This would allow any chapter member with a webcam
and wired PC to join the meetings. The Committee's goal is a 5 or
6-site test by mid-2004. They hope non-proprietary, open source or free
software alternatives will emerge to replace the unreliability of a
personal computer set-up. For more information or to help, contact: Tom
