GREEN PARTY CANDIDATES ACHIEVE BALLOT ACCESS IN ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY

Dave Gross, Green Party candidate for Maryland House of Delegates in the 30th District, and George Law, Green Party candidate for Anne Arundel County Council, District 2, have both received confirmation from the Board of Elections that they have submitted the required number of valid signatures to have their names appear on the ballot in the November 5, 2002 election.

"It was a lot of work, but thanks to the persistence of my campaign staff and the pro-democratic impulses of the citizens who signed my petitions, the people of Anne Arundel County will have an alternative to politics as usual to vote for this November," commented Gross, who turned in nearly 100 more valid signatures than the 705 required by the State Board of Elections. Both Green candidates have pledged to run "clean money" campaigns, limiting donations from individuals to $100 or less and refusing to accept corporate or PAC contributions.

George Law, a local business owner and Green candidate from Glen Burnie offered, "I enjoy going door-to-door and meeting potential constituents. Getting on the ballot now allows me to focus on talking about the future of the county with the residents of the district." Law was redistricted from District 1 to District 2 in June, and was required to collect hundreds of new signatures as a result. Nevertheless, he turned in over 80 more valid signatures than the 342 required by the County.

Green candidates Linda Schade, House of Delegates, District 20 (Takoma Park/Silver Spring), Rick Kunkel, House of Delegates, District 42 (Baltimore County), and Bob Lewis, St. Mary's County Commissioner, have all also submitted enough valid signatures to appear on the November ballot.
