Schade Says "Race Has Just Begun." |
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: SEPTEMBER 11, 2002 District 20 Green Party Candidate Says 'Race has
Just Begun': Calls forDebates Yesterday's primary election finalized the six candidates who will be vying for three seats in the much-watched District 20 race for House of Delegates. Green Party candidate Linda Schade is now joined by three Democrats and two Republicans on the November ballot. "Historically, the three candidates who win the Democratic primary sail easily into office but this time is different", Schade said. "This race has just begun. Now, with three parties in the race, the remaining candidates must debate the issues so voters can clearly distinguish our differences." Schade is calling for a series of community debates to be organized. The Schade campaign has already altered the political landscape of District 20. As a Green candidate, Schade successfully petitioned for ballot access in August so her candidacy was assured regardless of primary results. Yet, the campaign's visibility and organization yesterday across District 20 was unmistakable and revealed a striking show of support in this traditionally Democratic stronghold. "Although we weren't in the primary, we had signs at 26 of 27 polling stations and fielded 45 volunteers to hand out literature at the polls," said Schade. "Not bad for a practice run." The Schade campaign charges that the democratic process has been constricted by the political establishment in Annapolis and the Democratic machine in Maryland. "Thanks to big money and stale ideas, there has been a lack of leadership oncreative, viable alternatives which could revitalize District 20 and all of Maryland. People want a fresh, independent voice in Annapolis," Schade confidently remarked, "and I am that independent voice." Schade's campaign theme is 'Fresh Air and Clean
Politics.'
