Maine Green Independent Party
The Maine Green Independent Party will hold its annual Convention
June 7-8 at the Friends Camp on China Lake. MGIP has much to celebrate with the
first Green elected to the State Legislature in Maine, John Eder of Portland. This year's Convention will focus on reinforcing the
infrastructure of the Party to win more races next year and in the future.
Our Keynote Speaker is Roxanne Quimby, a Maine resident and founder and CEO
of Burt's Bees, the natural personal care products company. She has been
saving thousands of timberland acres in Maine from rampant development: "Maine has the opportunity to live up to its name as the "Dirigo" State, "
says Roxanne, "and lead the nation in an effort to create a vision of unspoiled landscapes and the splendor that Mother
Nature has given us as an example of her abundance and beauty."
Attendees will examine the Platform, work on the By-Laws and elect Steering
Committee members on Saturday, and workshops and forums conducted by the
Katahdin Center will be held on Sunday. Social and recreational activities
are being organized for those who wish to bring their families. Keeping
with a tradition of environmental values, the Party selected a rural setting
for this year's Convention.
Pre-registration is required. The fee is $35 per person, which includes
meals for both days, and lodging Saturday night; Friday night's optional
lodging is an additional $10. Fee reductions and waivers are available upon
request - donations are welcome to support these scholarships. Lodging is
in unheated cabins, andparticipants must bring their own bedding or sleeping bags. The Friends Camp is located in South
China, just thirty minutes east of Augusta.
