The Progressive Party of Missouri Gains Ballot Status in Two Districts. |
For immediate release Aug 20, 2002. The Progressive Party of Missouri, Missouri's affiliate to the United States Green Party, has obtained ballot status in two districts for the November midterm election. The Progressive Party is running two candidates for State Representative, Matt Larson in the 51st house district, and Mel Scrivener in the 50th. Volunteers collected over 800 total signatures to put the two candidates on the ballot. Matthew Larson has lived in the Independence/Sugar Creek area all his life. He has been a youth and adult leader with the Boy Scouts since 1988, and has been involved in progressive politics since 2000. Matt works in hospital services at the Community Blood Center. "Helping others is one of the greatest feelings in the world. I learned the value of doing good things when I was growing up in Sugar Creek. I'd like to carry that belief to Jefferson City." Mel has lived in Missouri all her life and in Jackson County for five years. She worked on Ralph Nader's 2000 presidential campaign and has worked with nonprofits and progressive organizations for ten years. Mel supports establishing a living wage in Missouri and saving Kansas City's schools from state takeover. For more information on Mel's campaign, go to www.voteformel.com.
