Green Party of New Jersey Runs Assembly, Senate and Local Candidates in 2003

TRENTON - Thirty-one Green Party candidates for NJ Assembly and 8 candidates for NJ Senate have filed petitions to appear on ballot in November. In addition, 10 Greens are running for county and municipal offices throughout New Jersey.

Incumbent Green Assemblyman Matt Ahearn (District 38, Bergen County) commented, "I am very excited that we have so many Greens seeking state, county, and local office around the state.

"Several of my colleagues in the Legislature have commented to me that the Greens were a dying party," said Ahearn, "but they are clueless to the rising sentiments against the machine type politics that dominate most  New Jersey communities. The Green Party has a vision of New Jersey politics dominated by the people and not the profiteers that grip the Legislature now. That vision resonates with members of both major parties as well as most undeclared non-partisan voters, and they make up the bulk of the registered voters in this State.

"After this Fall we will have a large pool of experienced candidates and campaign managers, we will continue building the Green Party in New Jersey and fighting for the people, not the pay-to-play major party contributors."

"This is the right time to challenge business as usual in Trenton," stated Jane Hunter, Chair of the NJ Green Party. "The people of New Jersey are discouraged by the big money crony-ism of both major parties and have been staying away from the polls in droves.

"The Green Party offers a real alternative-honest politics free of big money-candidates that listen to and truly represent the citizens of New Jersey. The Green Party takes no corporate or PAC money at any level of the organization."

Hunter is a candidate for NJ Assembly in District 16 (Somerset and Morris counties).
