HARRISBBURG -- Ed Rendell, a gubernatorial candidate for the Democratic
Party, last weekend added his signature to the nominating petition of
Mike Morrill, the Green Party’s candidate for governor.
The Greens touted the signature Tuesday. Rendell happily signed when
asked by a Green activist, saying, “Oh, I like Mike! Why not?”
Unlike Democratic and Republican governor candidates, who need only
2,000 signatures to qualify to appear on the ballot in Pennsylvania,
third party candidates need 21,000 signatures.
Rendell spokesman Dan Fee said the former Philadelphia mayor has no
problem helping a third party candidate on the ballot. “We believe
elections should be battles of ideas,” Fee said.
