Morrill Racks Up Two More Endorsements
Backing by National Union of Professional Organizers and United Smokers shows diversity of support.

HARRISBURG, PA - Michael Morrill, the Green Party nominee for governor, received two more endorsements this week, adding strength and diversity to his growing campaign.

The National Union of Professional Organizers (NUPO) became the second labor union to endorse Morrill. NUPO is an independent union representing labor organizers and other union support staff. NUPO's decision was based on knowing Morrill's dedication to the needs of working families, according to NUPO member Julie Wayman of Erie.

"We have worked shoulder to shoulder with Mike Morrill helping workers organize for their rights," said Wayman. "No one running for governor in any state could represent labor better than Mike Morrill."

Morrill is a member of NUPO, and is a former member of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.

United Smokers endorsed Morrill based on his opposition to the recent increase in Pennsylvania's cigarette tax. Morrill, a nonsmoker, was the only candidate to declare his opposition to that tax. Morrill called it "discriminatory, regressive and unfair."

"We here at United Smokers support Morrill in the upcoming election," said Donald R. Diotte. "We think he is the man that can get the job done."

"I am honored to receive these new endorsements," said Morrill. "Organizations and individuals are supporting us, even though they don't agree with us one hundred percent. It shows that the Green message of increased democracy is resonating with a variety of people and organizations, and that overriding message is more important than our relatively minor differences."

The Morrill/Smedley campaign anticipates more union and other endorsements in the coming weeks.
