MORRILL NOT SURPRISED BY HAFER ENDORSEMENT OF RENDELL

(HARRISBURG, PA)- Republican State Treasurer Barbara Hafer's endorsement of Democratic gubernatorial candidate Ed Rendell this morning came as no surprise to Michael Morrill, Rendell's Green Party opponent. "Ed Rendell has done a great job courting Republicans," Morrill said. "Between abandoning his party's traditional labor constituency and cozying up to the corporate fat-cats that have been the base of the Republicans' support, he's made it very easy for Republican politicians like Barbara Hafer to endorse him." "Some pundits are saying Hafer is crossing party lines with this endorsement," Morrill continued, "but it's really Ed Rendell who crossed party lines years ago. He's the perfect Republican. That's why so many Republicans switched their registration to vote for him in the Democratic primary."

Morrill's running mate, Vicki Smedley, said the Green Party will represent the needs of voters who feel abandoned by Rendell. "Mike and I are the only candidates who support universal healthcare, a living wage and other priorities of working families across the state," Smedley said. "This endorsement makes the choice this November clear," Morrill spokesperson Eric Prindle said. "If you want a country club Republican, vote for Ed Rendell or Mike Fisher. If you want someone who represents working people, vote for Michae Morrill."
