Morrill Joins "Taxi Wars," Holds Rally of Real, Unpaid Cabbies

(PHILADELPHIA)--Michael Morrill held a rally of "real" taxi drivers today outside of 30th Street Station in Philadelphia. Morrill's rally was intended to highlight the grassroots nature of his Green Party candidacy for governor.

"Mike Fisher had to hire an actor to play a taxi driver," said Morrill. "Ed Rendell had real cabbies in his ad, but he had to pay them to show up. I am the only candidate who can mobilize real taxi drivers without paying them, because I am the only candidate who stands up for working families."

Morrill was joined by 180th House District candidate Ernst Ford and about 40 cab drivers at his rally. The drivers roared in approval when Morrill said that both he and Ford had been taxi drivers. "But I must confess, I only drove one night. I was robbed and I never went back," said Morrill.

Ford reminded the cabbies that Rendell was the mayor who broke their strike in 1991, and added that Rendell would appoint the new Public Utility Commission if he gets elected.

"We can't let Rendell do to taxi drivers statewide what he did to us in Philly," declared Ford.

At the end of the rally, Morrill bumper stickers were passed out, and dozens of cabs left the rally donning the green and yellow Morrill stickers. Many of the Morrill stickers were placed directly over Rendell stickers.
