The Pennsylvania AFL-CIO, representing dozens of affiliated labor unions across the state, has endorsed Eric Prindle for state representative in the 85th District.

In a letter received by the campaign today, Executive Council president William M. George and Secretary/Treasurer Richard W. Bloomingdale informed Prindle of their organization's endorsement. "This endorsement is extended to you in recognition of your support of labor issues," George and Bloomingdale said.

Among the issues near the top of the AFL-CIO agenda Prindle is championing in his race are universal healthcare, a living wage, education funding equity, pay equity and labor organizing rights.

During the 1999-2000 legislative term, the latest for which complete rankings are available, the AFL-CIO ranked Prindle's opponent, Rep. Russ Fairchild, among the bottom 25 percent of Republicans in terms of support for a working families' agenda. "Even among members of his own party, my opponent stands out as a supporter of the interests of big corporations and HMOs over those of the working people in his district," Prindle said.

Prindle was endorsed in September by United Food and Commercial Workers  Local 38, based in Milton and representing approximately 2,000 workers at Chef BoyArDee, Heinz Pet Products and Impress facilities. Prindle has also been endorsed by the Pennsylvania National Organization for Women and will announce other endorsements shortly.
