Gerritt for Mayor of Providence Gerritt Troubled with Police Scandal, Campaigns for External Review Board. |
Green Party Candidate for Providence Mayor Greg Gerritt cited Plunderdome testimony of former Police Chief Prignano's as very troubling and shows the need for an External Review Board to review police actions. Gerritt said "Based on former Police Chief Prignano's testimony it is obvious that promotions in the Providence Police Department were based on many things, and merit rarely seems to be one of them." "That test results were bought in an organization dedicated to upholding the law is just one example of what is wrong with government in Providence." Gerritt stated. He added "The communication problems among the leadership of the department mean that the City government was not paying attention to the important things, hurts the many good police officers and is a clear example of why there is so much resentment of the police department in the city. " Green Party candidate for Mayor Greg Gerritt then noted that the lack of strong leadership on issues of obeying the law is a clear example of why an External Review of the police department is so important. He added "If the police department is selling test questions and communication has broken down, how can we expect the department to take seriously complaints by members of the community that officers have mistreated them?" "When the culture is sweep things under the rug, and to hide them from the public, the police department is incapable of properly reviewing their own misconduct." Gerritt said in campaigning for an External Board being proposed before the Providence City Council this week. GERRITT FOR MAYOR Gerritt for Mayor: http://www.gerrittformayor.org/ #END OF RELEASE# |
