The Green Party's candidate for Place 1 on the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals has won the endorsement of the Texas Women's Political Caucus.  Robert C. "Rob" Owen, an Austin attorney with extensive appellate experience and a record of working on behalf of death row prisoners, received the support of the TWPC, a statewide coalition of local caucuses that has worked for 30 years to increase women's participation in the political process.  The TWPC strives to win equality for women, ensure reproductive freedom, achieve quality dependent care, and eradicate discrimination on the basis of gender, race, religion or sexual orientation.  "I'm proud that the Texas Women's Political Caucus has endorsed my candidacy," Owen said. "I appreciate their confidence in my qualifications for the office and will do my best to deserve their continued support."

He has argued appeals in the Court of Criminal Appeals and in the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Fifth and Ninth Circuits and is a principal author of the briefs in two death penalty cases decided by the U.S. Supreme Court.   In 1998, Owen received the Thurgood Marshall Award from the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, recognizing his work on behalf of prisoners on death row.  He serves on the board of the Texas Defender Service, a Houston-based nonprofit law office devoted to defending condemned prisoners in Texas.

Owen is one of 43 candidates seeking the Green Party's nomination for public office in Texas this year, including candidates for governor and U.S. Senate.  The Green Party of Texas is one of 34 state parties affiliated with the Green Party of the United States under the principles of grass-roots democracy, social justice, ecological wisdom and nonviolence.
