Districts to Choose 2 Delegates Each to Green Party of the United States Presidential Nominating Convention in Milwaukee

The Wisconsin Green Party will hold congressional district caucuses throughout the state during March. Each CD will choose 2 delegates and one alternate to the Green Party of the United States Presidential Nominating Convention to be held in Milwaukee from June 23rd to June 28th. The first, fourth, and sixth districts will be holding their caucuses Saturday, March 6th.

Wisconsin will have 33 delegates to the June convention, out of a total of 836. The Congressional District caucuses will result in the election of 16 delegates. The other 17 delegates will be chosen at the party's Spring Gathering scheduled for April 16th to 18th at the Madison Civic Center.

Seven Green presidential candidates will appear on Wisconsin's ballot: Sheila Bilyeau, David Cobb, Paul Glover, Kent Mesplay, Carol Miller, Lorna Salzman, and Peter Camejo. There will also be 2 write-in options. Instant Runoff Voting (IRV) will be used to direct each district delegate's initial votes at the convention in June. For information on IRV, visit http://www.fairvote.org/irv/index.html

"This is the first time that we have held district caucuses to choose a portion of our delegates," said Jeff Peterson, of Luck, a representative to the Wisconsin Green Party Coordinating Council, the decision-making body of the Wisconsin Green Party. "It is exciting to watch the districts organize throughout the state. This is another step in party-building."

The Wisconsin Green Party stands on the four pillars of Ecological Wisdom, Social Justice, Grassroots Democracy, and Nonviolence.
