Wisconsin Green Party to Hold Spring Gathering in Madison, April 16th - 18th.

Remaining Delegates to GPUS Presidential Nominating Convention to be Chosen at Spring Gathering.

The Wisconsin Green Party will be holding its Spring Gathering at the Madison Civic Center this coming weekend, April 16th to 18th.  The WGP holds 3 state organizational membership meetings each year:  Spring Gathering, Summer Gathering, and Fall Gathering.  During this Gathering, the party will be choosing delegates to the Presidential Nominating Convention of the Green Party of the United States, to be held in Milwaukee, June 23 to 28th. 

The Wisconsin Green Party has earned 33 delegates to the convention. Sixteen have already been chosen during the month of March by the 8 Congressional Districts, with each district choosing 2 delegates.  The general membership will choose 13 delegates at The Gathering, and the four identity caucuses will choose one delegate each.  The Wisconsin Green Party has 4 identity caucuses:  Women, Diversity, Youth, and Lavender.  Other business to be conducted:  proposed constitutional changes, committee reports, and  workshops.

The membership of the Spring Gathering will join the Saturday afternoon march to protest the Marriage Protection Amendment to the state constitution which was recently passed by the state legislative bodies.  The march is organized by the Civil Rights Equality Coalition.  It will gather at UW-Madison library mall at 12:30, and proceed to the state capitol building, where people will rally at 1:15. 

Two speakers will address the  membership of the Spring Gathering on Saturday night at the Civic Center, starting at 7 PM.  Mike McCabe of Wisconsin Democracy Campaign will address the group on the theme of "Impediments to Democracy in Wisconsin".  Dee Sweet, Grandmother, Bear Clan Anishinaabe, writer, professor at UW-GB, Wisconsin Green Party member and activist on behalf of water and its children will give a talk entitled, "It' s All Cycle-Logical:  Addressing our Responsibilities to the Coming Generations. 

The Gathering weekend will include 2 fundraisers:  9 PM Friday night - Rev. Eddie Danger band, 9 PM Saturday night - Soul Brothers band.
