Highlights Include a Joint Fundraiser for Fall Candidates with Minnesota Greens, and Endorsement of Wisconsin Green State and Federal Candidates

The Wisconsin Green Party's second Summer Gathering will take place the weekend of August 20-22 at Perrot State Park near Trempealeau.  The first Summer Gathering was held the summer of 2003, at Rivers Edge Campground in Stevens Point, August 22nd to 24th.  This year's attendees will be meeting along the banks of the Mississippi.

One of activities planned for the weekend is a joint fundraiser with local Greens in Winona, Minnesota, Saturday night, at Holzinger Lodge.  The funds raised will benefit the campaigns of Minnesota and Wisconsin Green Party candidates for the fall.

"I love it that we will be working with the Minnesota Greens," said Jessica Thill, one of the organizers of the Summer Gathering.  "Issues, such as the health of the river, often cross political boundaries, and so our efforts must cross them too."

Endorsement of Wisconsin Green state and federal candidates is planned for Saturday's agenda.  The Wisconsin Green Party will have 6 state and federal candidates on the ballot on November 2nd, and 4 local candidates in addition to David Cobb and Pat LaMarche, the Green Party of the United States presidential and vice-presidential nominees.

"The Gathering will be a chance for Greens from across Wisconsin to come together to camp, meet each other, and discuss important issues from the local to the international," said Brian Lutenegger, Co-chair of the Four Lakes Green Party of Dane County.  "Although there are a few business items on the agenda, the Summer Gathering agenda allows for more time for participants to relax than our Fall and Spring Gatherings."

The Wisconsin Green Party is affiliated with the Green Party of the United States, and stands on the four pillars of Social & Economic Justice, Grassroots Democracy, Nonviolence, and Ecological Wisdom.
