Senate Candidate Tags Bush a "Tax and
Spend Conservative"
(Oregon, WI) U.S. Senate candidate Rae Vogeler
sharply criticized the passage of the 2006 Defense Appropriations Act
last Friday, at a vote of 97-0, which mandates another $50 billion for
war in Iraq and Afghanistan.
"Congress is a rubber stamp for Bush's war
agenda," said Vogeler. Here comes even more reckless spending
from Capitol Hill on the war. Where is the fiscal
responsibility?"
"The American people have already footed a
$311 billion tab for war, " she argued. "Our national debt
is out of control. Bush and the Congressional leadership are spending
away our children's future."
Vogeler pointed out that under Congressional
Republican leadership federal spending has ballooned in the last five
years largely due to the costs of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
"Bush and Congress are taxing working
families to spend recklessly on wars. They're tax and spend
conservatives, pure and simple."
Rae Vogeler is a leader in the peace movement and
is challenging Herb Kohl for Senate.
"The American people don't want blank checks
for Bush's adventurism. We need to bring some fiscal sanity to
Congress' uncontrolled war spending."
Senator Kohl is a strong supporter of the Iraq War
and voted for the increased funding.
"War is big business, and some very powerful
people are making enormous profits at taxpayer expense," charged
Vogeler. "As Senator, one of the first bills I would introduce
would be to make it illegal for corporations to profit from war."
"Our government's spending priorities are way
off," she added. Why is there always money for bombs but never
for health care? We need money for jobs and education, not endless
wars across the globe."
