Oregon, WI -- The Vogeler campaign welcomes the
indictments of Karl Rove and I. Lewis Libby Jr., both of whom are
currently under investigation by special counsel Patrick J.
Fitzgerald.
"The only way this administration could get
away with their agenda of war and tax cuts for the rich was by lying
to the American people about weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and
breaking the law. Is it any wonder Americans are so cynical about
politics?"
"Real democracy means the people decide.
Instead, what we have is a few highly influential operatives like Rove
and Libby giving access to lobbyists and corporations in exchange for
power," said Vogeler. "The Bush Administration has stretched
the American people's tolerance for greed and corruption to the
breaking point."
"For years Republicans lectured us about
religious morality. Well, I don't know any moral code that says it's
OK to lie about WMDs and cheat on campaign finance law." House
Majority leader Tom Delay was also recently indicted for channeling
illegal corporate contributions through his political action
committee.
"In reality, Rove, Libby and Delay's
indictments are merely symptoms of the culture of greed and corruption
that has swallowed both parties."
"We need a working mom in the Senate to put
all the powerful political operatives and lobbyists in their rightful
place, and that place is on the sidelines."
