Dr. Jill Stein, who will formally announce her candidacy for President of the United States as a Green Party candidate later this month, will be a featured speaker at the rally to re- elect Kshama Sawant to Seattle City Council.

The event takes place at Seattle Town Hall (1119 8th Avenue Seattle, WA 98101) at 6:30pm on Saturday, June 6.

"I will be in Seattle to support Kshama's re-election because this election is critical for everyone who has a vested interest in breaking the monopoly of the two corporately owned political parties," says Dr. Stein. "As a champion of working people, the poor, and communities of color, Kshama has created enemies with deep pockets who are lining up to defeat her. Like the Green Party, and my own campaign for President, Kshama refuses all corporate donations, fighting instead for the interests of the 99%. We all need to rise up, stand together and assert our power and political will. That is why I am proud to speak at Kshama's re-election kick off event."

In addition to Jill Stein and Kshama Sawant, additional speakers at the rally include Pulitzer prize-winning journalist Chris Hedges, WA State Senator Pramila Jayapal, SEIU 775 President David Roth, anti-racism community organizer Dustin Washington, and others TBA.

The event is organized by the Kshama Sawant Re-election Campaign, whose website states that Kshama's "reelection this year will be a referendum on working-class politics – pitting our grassroots movement against the corporate political establishment, which wants nothing more than to unseat Kshama and return City Hall to business as usual."
